A workshop on waste and wasting
Venue
Room 6.14, 40 George SquareDescription
Dear colleagues,
The Anthropology of Environment Research Cluster would like to invite you to a workshop on waste and wasting on Friday, 6th February 2026, from 10:30 am – 12:30. We would love to hear from colleagues from across the University about your current work and ideas for future research through five-minute flash presentations.
The goal of the workshop is to a) map out waste-related research at Edinburgh b) scope out potential for future collaborations. We will be joined by Dr Kevin Yildirim from Cambridge University who will visit Edinburgh that day. Kevin is an anthropologist by training and recently completed long-term ethnographic fieldwork on migrant labour in Turkey’s informal recycling sector. After the workshop, you are very welcome to join us for lunch (although unfortunately you will have to pay for yourselves).
Later in the day Kevin will also give a presentation on “Who is entitled to profit? Workplace conflict in a multi-ethnic recycling depot in Turkey” at the Social Anthropology Seminar (3-5pm, Seminar Room 1, CMB), which you are warmly invited to.
Please send a tentative title for your flash presentation to ann-christin.zuntz@ed.ac.uk until 30th January 2026.
